Growing for and with God to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community.

Our Mission

The mission of the United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The mission of the United Methodist Church at Newfoundland is “Growing for and with God to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community”.

The United Methodist Church at Newfoundland strives to create a community where people will become united with the spirit of God and use their gifts to serve as disciples of Jesus Christ. As a church family, we will serve Jesus Christ collectively in order to do work that we could not individually.

With Jesus Christ as our guiding light, our church family will benefit all people whose lives we touch. With this guiding light as our strength, The United Methodist Church at Newfoundland will never let the challenges limit what we can do, but will let our faith in Jesus Christ lead us in all our endeavors.

Ultimately, The United Methodist Church at Newfoundland is a place where we come together to accept all individuals as made by God, educate children and adults in the understanding of God’s love through Jesus Christ, and through our gifts and talents share that love of Jesus Christ with one another, the community, the nation, and the world.

Meet Our Pastor

Reverend Eunkyong Kim was born and raised in South Korea. She loves serving God and God’s people and finds joy in a loving relationship with God and others.

She earned an M.Div. and S.T.M. from Drew Theological School. Her ministry background involves several years of services in children’s and music ministry. She served Cedar Cliff UMC prior to coming to Newfoundland UMC. She enjoyed serving in different churches, finding God’s grace and spiritual gifts from them all. She is blessed to serve the Newfoundland UMC, a faith community filled with the love of God, and demonstrate that love by putting it into practice as hands and feet of Christ.

She is married to JongIn Lee who is also a UMC pastor. They are blessed with a daughter and a small dog. When away from church, Eunkyong enjoys family hiking and swimming.

UWF Serenity Circle

The Serenity Circle is a group of women in our church who are under the umbrella of United Women in Faith (formerly the United Methodist Women). Our major purpose is to be in mission to our community and around the world. We currently support various missions as needed and at least one during Lent with a Lenten mission and another during Advent. Until the onset of COVID we gathered 4 times a year for lunch and fellowship and to discuss and plan for upcoming mission projects. All women of the church are cordially welcomed to be a part of this group. Our current mission project is our Back to School Supply Drive. If you would like to donate, please click on the learn more button below, to email us. Thank you!

Our History

"Growing For and With God" 1870-Present

The oldest record is a Recording Steward's record book dated March 22, 1851.

On December 22, 1866, the congregation met in the school house to elect trustees for the purpose of erecting a church building. The church was to be located on the main street in the center of the village of Newfoundland on property donated by Peter Decker. Construction commenced in the Spring of 1867. The building was dedicated, debt free, on September 1, 1870.

Growth followed and a parsonage was erected in 1887, which housed our pastors until 1967. The spirit of fellowship in the church necessitated the building of a Parish House in 1914 to house the many gatherings within the community.

The first records of our Church School go back to 1907 when 74 children were enrolled. A classroom expansion was completed in 1954.

By 1964, overcrowded conditions and the encroachment of the widening highway forced the church to consider relocation. A parcel of land was donated by Mr. & Mrs. William Dongan, which was dedicated on October 17, 1965. The new parsonage was completed in 1969. In April 1973, the final service was held in the original building, followed by a "Grand March" from the "old" to the "new".

In 1978, plans began for expansion of the sanctuary and fellowship hall, and was completed in 1980. In June of 2000, the church voted to begin the process of adding a new educational wing so we could continue to "Grow For and With God". In the Fall of 2004, the building was dedicated.
